Eye On The Site job site monitoring

Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Eye On The Site FAQ. This guide covers the most common questions about the Eye On The Site web platform and the Capture Device application.

General Questions

What is Eye On The Site?
Eye On The Site is a visual project monitoring platform designed to help contractors, project managers, and business owners track job progress through automatically captured images. The system combines a dedicated Capture Device with a web-based management platform where users can review project photos, manage cameras and users, generate time-lapse videos, and monitor project activity.
Is Eye On The Site a live video camera system?
Eye On The Site does not use continuous live video streaming. Instead, the Capture Device automatically captures and uploads images at the interval configured for each project. While a device is actively capturing, new images can appear only seconds apart, creating a near-live view of job-site activity.
Can I access Eye On The Site remotely?
Yes. You can access the Eye On The Site web platform from anywhere you have internet access. This allows managers and owners to monitor projects without being physically present at every job site.
Can one account manage multiple projects?
Yes. Eye On The Site is designed to manage multiple projects from the same account. Each project can also contain multiple cameras.

Account and Sign In

How do I sign in to the Eye On The Site web platform?
Sign in using the email address and password associated with your account. Each user has their own credentials, helping maintain individual and secure access to the platform.
Can multiple people have access to the same account?
Yes. Administrators can create individual users and assign them access based on their responsibilities. Each user can have their own username, password, role, and project assignments.
Can I change my email address?
Your current email address is displayed in your profile, but it cannot be changed directly from the profile page. If an email address needs to be updated, contact your account administrator or Eye On The Site support.
How do I change my password?
Open your profile from the user menu and select Change Password. You will be asked to enter your current password and choose a new password that meets the platform's security requirements.

Dashboard

What information can I see on the Dashboard?
The Dashboard provides a quick overview of your account, including total projects, total cameras, total photos captured, and total video clips generated. It also displays the latest image from each camera.
What does "Online" mean for a camera?
An Online camera is currently connected and communicating with Eye On The Site. When a camera is online, you may also see information such as battery level, recent activity, latest uploaded image, total number of photos, and the Remote Stop control.
What does "Offline" mean?
Offline means the Capture Device is not currently communicating with the platform. You can still view the most recently uploaded image and see when the camera was last updated.
Why can't I see the battery level for an offline camera?
Battery information is available only while the Capture Device is connected and communicating with Eye On The Site.

Projects

How do I create a new project?
Go to Projects and select Add Project. Enter the project name and any additional information you would like to include, such as address, description, and photo capture interval. Once you select Create, the project is created and active. You can then continue configuring cameras, users, and optional scheduling settings.
Do I need to complete every setup step before the project can be used?
No. The project is created as soon as you complete the first step and select Create. The remaining steps can be completed immediately or updated later.
What is the photo interval?
The photo interval controls how frequently the Capture Device automatically takes project photos. Available intervals may include 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10 minutes. Shorter intervals create more photos and provide more frequent visual updates.
Can I change the photo interval later?
Yes. Open the project, edit its settings, update the photo interval, and save your changes.
Can a project have more than one camera?
Yes. A single project can have multiple cameras, allowing you to monitor different areas, angles, floors, or phases of the job.
Is a camera created automatically when I create a project?
Yes. A default camera is created automatically. You can rename it or add additional cameras if needed.
Can I rename a camera?
Yes. Camera names can be edited from the project configuration. Using descriptive names such as Front Entrance, Kitchen, Second Floor, or Exterior can make it easier to manage projects with multiple cameras.
Can I assign specific users to specific projects?
Yes. Administrators can control which projects each user can access. This makes it possible to give team members access only to the projects relevant to them.

Photos

Where can I view the photos captured by a camera?
Select a project and open the camera you want to review. The camera gallery displays captured images with the date and time of each photo.
Can I view photos in full screen?
Yes. Select any photo to open the full-screen viewer. You can move between images using the on-screen controls or keyboard arrows.
Can I hide photos?
Yes. One or multiple photos can be selected and hidden from normal viewing. Hidden photos can still be found using the visibility filter.
Can I upload a photo manually?
Yes. Use the Add Photo option in the camera gallery to upload an image manually.
Does Eye On The Site detect people in photos?
Yes. The gallery includes a Person Detected filter that allows you to display all photos, photos where a person was detected, or photos where no person was detected.

Video Clips

Can Eye On The Site create a time-lapse video of my project?
Yes. Eye On The Site can use the captured project photos to generate professional time-lapse video clips. This makes it easy to show the progress of a project from beginning to completion.
Can I customize a video clip?
Yes. Available video customization options may include video title, horizontal or vertical orientation, banner overlay, watermark, company logo, banner position, banner background, and custom text.
Can I add my company branding to the video?
Yes. You can include your company's logo and branding information when creating the video. This makes the finished video useful for customer updates, presentations, websites, and social media.
Do video clips use credits?
Yes. Video generation uses Eye On The Site credits. You can review available credits and usage history under Settings > Subscriptions & Credits.
Where can I see videos that have already been generated?
Open the Video Clips section for the appropriate camera. Existing clips display their title, creation date, orientation, thumbnail, and playback option.

Sharing Videos

Can I share a generated video with someone who does not have an Eye On The Site account?
Yes. Eye On The Site can generate a public sharing link for a video. Anyone with the active link can view the shared video without signing in to your account.
Can I disable a shared video link?
Yes. Go to Shared Videos and select Revoke. The public link will no longer provide access to the video.

Users and Permissions

What types of users can be created?
Eye On The Site supports different user roles so access can be adapted to each person's responsibilities. Administrators have broader account management access, while project-level users can be limited to the projects assigned to them.
Can a user see every project in the company?
Not necessarily. Users can be assigned only to specific projects. This allows companies to limit access based on team assignments or responsibilities.
Can I remove a user's access to a project?
Yes. Administrators can add or remove project assignments from the user's settings.
Can I delete a user?
Yes. Users can be removed by an administrator from the Users section.

Capture Device and App

What is the Eye On The Site Capture Device?
The Capture Device is the dedicated device used at the job site to automatically capture and upload project images. It is configured specifically for use with the Eye On The Site application and is designed to make project monitoring simple and reliable.
Is the Capture Device included with Eye On The Site?
The current Eye On The Site subscription offering includes a Capture Device. Available plans and included hardware may vary in the future.
Can the Capture Device be used for other applications?
The Capture Device is configured specifically for Eye On The Site and is restricted to the Eye On The Site application. This helps keep the device focused on its primary job-site monitoring function.
How do I sign in to the Capture Device?
When the Eye On The Site application is first opened, enter the username and password provided for the user operating the device. The login normally needs to be completed only once unless the user manually signs out.
What projects will appear in the Capture Device app?
The app shows only the projects assigned to the user who is signed in. If a project does not appear, confirm that the user has been assigned to that project in the Eye On The Site web platform.
Why does the app ask me to select a camera after selecting a project?
Projects can have multiple cameras. After choosing the project, select the camera that represents the location or angle where the Capture Device will be positioned.
Can I choose a different camera lens?
Depending on the Capture Device model, the application may allow you to select available lenses such as 0.6x, 1x, and 2x. Choose the lens that gives you the best view of the work area.
How do I start capturing photos?
After selecting the project, camera, and desired lens: position the Capture Device where you want it, confirm that the image framing is correct, and press Start Capture. The device will begin automatically capturing images using the photo interval configured for that project.
Do I need to leave the Eye On The Site app open while capturing?
No. Once Start Capture has been activated, the application can remain open or be closed. The Capture Device will continue capturing images in the background.
Can I use the Capture Device for another project while it is already capturing?
Stop the current capture before repositioning or assigning the device to another project or camera. This helps ensure that images are uploaded to the correct project and camera.
How do I stop capturing?
Open the Eye On The Site application and press Stop Capture. Always stop the capture when the work period or project activity has finished.
Can a manager stop the Capture Device remotely?
Yes. A manager can remotely stop an active capture from the Eye On The Site management platform.
Can a manager remotely start a capture?
No. For safety and accuracy, capture must be started directly from the Capture Device after it has been positioned at the job site.
What happens if I close the app by mistake?
If capture has already been started, closing the app does not stop the capture. The system continues working in the background until Stop Capture is selected or the capture is stopped remotely by a manager.
How frequently does the Capture Device upload images?
The device follows the capture interval configured for the project. While the device is actively online and capturing, uploaded images can appear only seconds apart depending on system activity and configuration, providing a near-live view of project progress.
Why am I not seeing new photos?
Check the following: confirm that Start Capture was activated, confirm that the correct project and camera were selected, verify that the Capture Device has power, confirm that the device has an active network connection, and check whether the camera appears Online in the Eye On The Site dashboard. If the issue continues, contact Eye On The Site support.
What should I do if the Capture Device is offline?
First, check that the device has power, has network connectivity, is still positioned correctly, and has not been manually stopped. The web platform will continue displaying the most recently uploaded image and the time of the last update.
Can I move the Capture Device after capture has started?
Yes, but it is best to stop the current capture before repositioning the device. After moving it, confirm the framing and start the capture again. This helps maintain a clean and consistent project record.

Troubleshooting

A project is missing from my account. What should I do?
If you are using the web platform, confirm that your user has been assigned to that project. If you are using the Capture Device, the app will only display projects assigned to the signed-in user. Contact your administrator if you need access.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
Use the available account recovery process or contact your account administrator or Eye On The Site support for assistance.
A camera appears offline even though the Capture Device is at the site. What should I check?
Confirm that the device has power, network connectivity is available, capture has been started, and the application is configured for the correct project and camera.
I generated a video but cannot find it. Where should I look?
Open the appropriate project's camera and select Video Clips. Generated videos are associated with the camera whose photos were used to create the clip.
I shared a video but the link no longer works. Why?
The link may have been revoked. Check the Shared Videos section to confirm whether the sharing link is still active.
